VIET CONG: Black/OD Top & bottoms color preferred, although there are many differing clothing examples when consulting the historical record & those variations are acceptable.
NORTH VIETNAMESE ARMY: Brown or Tan tunic types preferred, but Brown or Tan is the important part.
Regardless of branch or faction chosen, it is the participant/players responsibility to arrive with appropriate gear for their impression and intended role. If choosing Army for example, if wearing a patched uniform, if possible, please display the 6th ID or 1st ID patches as well as the normal appropriate patches-(name & branch) on your slant pocket OD or ERDL jungle uniform.
USMC, with EGA stencil on left breast pocket, pin-on rank both collars & occasionally on cover.
US Navy uniforms that typically required patches also follow with name & branch tapes.
There is also the option to run patch free (no ID of any kind) in any branch. Rank is displayed by a 1/2 a “rate” per year of attendance of a Namsoft event. Previously assigned ranks require witness corroboration -buddy statements- from a known entity to DAS unless previously arranged by Delta Action Sports staff. If this is your 1st Namsoft event please do not display a higher rank than E-1. Officer ranks are reserved for Unit Commands & Staff unless previously approved.
All field gear is to be M56 or M67 – there ARE Alice exceptions- such as the small Alice packs, pouches, butt & canteen cover, etc. – please reach out with any questions about gear and uniforms. Delta Action Sports is efforting to be inclusive & permitting of all the gear types that spanned the duration of the Vietnam War Era. Running minimal gear is encouraged if on a budget. If your uniform & boots are correct, & you have the correct weapon- a couple of bandoliers and a belt with canteen is also an acceptable and economical way into Namsofting.
We don’t expect that everyone will have EVERYTHING vintage. Modern sleep systems are permitted. That being said, there ARE ways to disguise & hide your modern gear- such as an inexpensive green bivy bag to put your modern bag into for example, as well as green USGI laundry bags & duffle- or sea bag- they are cheap & conceal your modern gear well enough.
All we ask is an effort to hide away modern items as best you can, as photographs and film will be shot the duration of the event. Participants are encouraged to take video & photographs & share them with the group. Lets be mindful and try to keep the scene set in order to collect some great faux vintage documentation. If there are alternate impressions you would like to portray please reach out to admin about it, more than likely we will allow it if historically accurate.
Approved USGI & ARVN/VNMC airsoft marker models are: M-16-w or w/o M203, XM-177, M-14, M-1 Carbine, M-60 , M79, M-1, M1911 & other USGI side arms of the era. Historically there were lots of other weapons there- we know- & if you have one- bring it- BUT if portraying US Forces- please endeavor to use an M-16 or M-14, the WW2 era & French Indochina War weapons were commonly seen with Vietnamese forces and US Advisors, at times vehicle operators as well in the hands of oppositional forces.
VC/ NVA- all the preceding & AK-47, & other similar Chinese/Russian era weapons.
